Currently available for Chromebooks, Windows and Mac, the WebTitan OTG 2 family of agents sees the existing WebTitan OTG 1 agent being re-architected as a single-threaded application, giving more stability and security and requiring less CPU overhead from the user machine. However, this re-architecture means that there is no direct upgrade path from WebTitan OTG 1 to WebTitan OTG 2.
WebTitan OTG 1 is still supported and you can continue to use it, however, if you want to move your devices to WebTitan OTG 2 you will need to follow the guidelines below.
The WebTitan OTG 2 agent family offers other improvements:
You can remotely manage and configure OTG 2 devices after installation from your WebTitan Cloud, using the device management UI.
You can view detailed device information on all your devices in WebTitan Cloud and apply global or individual configuration changes.
Reliance on a user's IP address has been removed, with OTG 2 using an EDNS tag to identify a user and their device.
You can automatically assign a specific policy to new devices during installation.
OTG 2 uses a customer-specific install key that improves security during installation. The install key can also be regenerated in the WebTitan UI if necessary.
Guidelines for moving from WebTitan OTG 1 for Mac to WebTitan OTG 2 for Mac
Ensure you read these topics in the WebTitan OTG 2 for Mac Guide:
For the purposes of these guidelines, it is important to understand that WebTitan OTG 1 for Mac creates a user and roaming location for each installation, while WebTitan OTG 2 for Mac creates a user, a virtual location, and a device.
Using the instructions in the WebTitan OTG 2 for Mac Guide, carry out a number of test installations of WebTitan OTG 2 for Mac. Verify these test installations appear on your WebTitan Cloud and are filtering as expected.
Uninstall OTG 1 for Mac. See How can I uninstall OTG 1 on a Mac?
When satisfied that the OTG 2 test installations are working as expected, delete your OTG 1 roaming locations from WebTitan Cloud. To do this, go to Settings > Locations > Roaming.
Important
It is recommended to delete your OTG 1 roaming locations prior to installing OTG 2 to avoid any location confusion when OTG 2 virtual locations are added. However, if preferred, you can delete your OTG 1 roaming locations after OTG 2 installation.
Carry out all your OTG 2 for Mac installations following the instructions in the WebTitan OTG 2 for Mac Guide.
